FORMATION OF OZONE IN THE ATMOSPHERE

Ozone is formed when UV light rays from the sun break apart oxygen molecules. Since ozone is heavier than air, it falls to the surface of the earth and naturally cleans the air. The smell we feel on rainy days is the smell of ozone falling to the ground in large quantities.
